Updated 06.05.20

We have been blown away by all the messages of support that we have received in the last few days and weeks. Thanks to everyone who has got in touch.

These are unprecedented and difficult times for all of us, on both personal and professional levels, but these are also times where we find out what we’re made of and (re)discover our resilience. It’s great to already see local and virtual communities coming together to support each other.

Weddings, and therefore wedding suppliers, are being greatly affected as the Government has now stopped all gatherings of more than two people, including weddings. Couples are cancelling or postponing their weddings placing many wedding businesses at serious risk. I understand the pressures you are under; I am a wedding supplier myself and I am seeing my bookings postpone as well.

BUT…couples still want to get married so we can survive this if we work together, share information and ideas and are resourceful and creative; all things that the wedding industry already excels at. You can help by completing our Survey. More on this below.

The Government has now released information on the financial support it will give to the self-employed, information that will be of real interest to many businesses in the wedding industry. You can find more details of this HERE and HERE.

For the last 10 years, TWIA has supported and championed wedding businesses of all shapes and sizes; it’s why we set up TWIA in the first place and we shall continue to do so in these difficult times.

TWIA IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS

Entries, Nominations and Voting for TWIA 2021 remain open. TWIA’s core aim is to recognise and reward excellence in the wedding industry. This remains relevant and vital to our industry now and in the future.

  1. The wedding industry still exists! Couples still want to get married as soon as they are able and are planning their weddings for 2021 and beyond. More than ever, your business will benefit from the credible differentiation that TWIA offers in an increasingly competitive market.
  2. You already have eligible Voters. Your wedding clients since 10.10.19 may Vote for you. This means that the vast majority of suppliers already have couples who can vote for them. If weddings start up again before October those couples will be able to Vote for you too.
  3. TWIA is not about the total number of Votes. It's about the proportion of your clients that Vote and quality of their Votes. More on this here.
  4. Everyone is in the same boat. If some suppliers were able to do weddings and others weren’t this would be unfair. The fact that no one is doing any weddings maintains the level playing field that sits at the heart of TWIA. As a result, no one will be at a disadvantage at any stage of the competition. We will make sure that TWIA remains fair to everyone.
  5. We can change how TWIA works this year if we need to. We can change how we use Votes, change the dates when entries & voting close and when we run our events.

CONTINGENCIES

Events
We hope to be able to announce the dates and venues for the Regional Awards Events in the coming weeks.

If we are unable to run our events in November and/or January:

Client Voting
TWIA has a well-established system of client-only Voting. We intend to run this as normal.

It is vital to remember that TWIA is not simply about the total number of Votes received. How we use Client Votes is explained in full in the 'In Detail' section HERE.

Just like you, we are monitoring and listening to government advice and we shall keep everyone posted regarding any necessary changes to any aspect of TWIA.

TO CLARIFY, WE CURRENTLY INTEND TO RUN TWIA IN EXACTLY THE SAME WAY AS IN PREVIOUS YEARS.

THE WEDDING INDUSTRY AND CORONAVIRUS - SURVEY RESULTS

We put together a survey for wedding suppliers to better understand the state of the wedding industry in these, the early stages of living and working in a world affected by Coronavirus. You can now see the reports from the first survey via the buttons below.
The reports provide a much needed snapshot of what exactly is happening in the wedding industry right now. We really hope this will help us all navigate this unprecedented situation.

We intend to repeat the survey each month in order to monitor the ever changing industry landscape and provide regular updates.

RESILIENCE, RESOURCEFULNESS AND CREATIVITY

The wedding industry is an incredibly supportive environment and now, more than ever, we need to help and support each other however possible, whilst maintaining our own health and wellbeing and that of everyone around us.

Small business owners are a resilient, resourceful and creative bunch; we have to be. Many of you navigated your business through the financial crisis more than a decade ago, many of you established your businesses in the aftermath of that crisis. We now need to show that same resilience, resourcefulness and creativity in the face of this new adversity.

The bottom line is: we are here for you, and we will do everything we can to help wherever and whenever we can.

So, let’s weather this storm with each other and for each other and, all going well, come out the other side all the stronger for it.

Best wishes to you, your family and your business.
