Why did you enter TWIA 2015?
We work closely with 2014 Best Marquee winners World Inspired Tents who mentioned the awards and we felt it was the right time for us to enter as a business after winning Westcountry Wedding Caterer for 4 consecutive years.
Tell us about yourself…
Director and Head Chef Tom Cull was raised in a cooking environment and has been inspired and guided by food from an early age. After travelling the world and returning to Devon with a passion to create the perfect pie (Tom’s Pies), he met and built relationships with other Devon based food producers and suppliers – people with the same passion for local produce. Knowing Tom’s talent and passion for fantastic food, he was asked to cater for someone’s wedding and this is where Dartmoor Kitchen began almost 10 years ago. This passion for incredible ingredients, sourced locally, is still reflected in the menus that are prepared for our brides & grooms to this day.
How confident did you feel about winning?
We didn’t feel confident at all although of course we hoped to be in with a chance! We were absolutely delighted to win at the regional event and knew that we would be up against some incredible competition at the nationals.
We were extremely surprised to go on and win! We are obviously very proud of our service and team but never rest on our laurels and always strive to be better so although we felt we deserved to be there, to actually be crowned the winner was something else! It was a fantastic moment to have been recognised for the hard work that each and every one of our team puts in.
What does winning The Wedding Industry Awards mean to you?
We were absolutely delighted and do everything we can to make sure people know about it! We know that this is a fantastic award to receive in the industry and wear our award with huge pride.
What has been the most valuable part of TWIA 2015 for you?
Being able to mention our award when speaking to new clients has definitely had an effect on how they view us – it is a stamp of approval and validates our level of service.
Final thoughts?
Winning the award is not only great for customers to see, but also other suppliers in the industry. We have certainly noticed an increase in the last year of venues contacting us and recommending us to clients which is fantastic.
Gaining more business and recognition from customers and peers alike from being an award winner is a fantastic gain as far as we are concerned!
